5 Days of “hands on” training in developing purpose built flow trails for mountain bikes

During the 5 days, we will delve into all aspects of the design and development of a flow trail including placement and character of the jumps and berms. Each day we will look at key elements of the creation process, while some participants might like to focus on particular interests. All in all, we will work with you to convey the knowledge and skill you seek. For those who want to get some practice on a mini excavator there will also be opportunities to get that happening too! The proposed course program is as follows.


Day One: Trail Design Considerations

  • Walk the trail alignment
  • Check Trail Gradients Using a Clinometer
  • Trail Flagging Techniques
  • Open Discussing about trail design considerations
  • Creative Input: Participants will help to place jumps and features in the trail corridor!

Day Two: Turning Dirt and Making Shapes

  • Finding the Good Dirt
  • Building a Bench Trail
  • Get Started on the Corners!
  • Make Those Jumps Sendy

Day Three: Proceeding with Discipline

  • Trail Surface Drainage
  • Minimising Risks and Fall Hazards
  • Compaction and Shaping
  • Staying on Task

Day Four: Bringing it all Together

  • Busting Out the Shapes
  • Digger Time as required
  • Checking Flow and Testing

Day Five: Trail Finishing and Riding

  • Final Raking and Smoothing of Trail Surfaces
  • Compact Jumps and Berms
  • We find the Zen and then the Flow

  • Note, there is an IGA and takeaway options in Kyogle if you need extra supplies during the week

Site Access

  • The camping sites and location of the trail are accessible by 4WD only
  • 2WD camping sites may be available at the entry to the property
  • If you want to bring a caravan or motor home, please talk to us
  • Extremely wet weather may dictate event cancellations (although it is usually dry at this time of year!)

Site Preparations

  • Prior to the event, we will have the trail corridor cleared and ready for trail work
  • Camp sites and fire pit will be ready to go the Sunday Prior to event start
